Getting Started

Content Overview

At Safetydocs.org, we make organising your safety documentation intuitive and familiar — by using the concept of books on a bookshelf. Think of it like this:

Each book represents a folder or category of documents — for example, a book for “Risk Assessments” or one for “Emergency Planning.”

Books can contain chapters (used to group related documents) and pages (where your actual content lives). This structure helps keep your documentation organised, especially when you’re dealing with complex events or multiple teams.

Books are the top-level structure — ideal for separating different areas of your safety planning. Within a book, you can create pages directly, or use chapters to group related pages together. Chapters are optional but helpful as your content grows. All key content — like safety plans, procedures, contact lists — lives within pages.

To further organise your books, use bookshelves. A bookshelf can contain multiple books, and a single book can be placed on more than one bookshelf — perfect for events that span multiple departments or categories.

Colour Coding

To help you navigate quickly, bookshelves, books, chapters and pages are colour-coded by default. This ensures that each element of your safety documentation is instantly recognisable. Your administrator can customise these colours to suit your organisation’s style or hierarchy.

Getting Started

When you begin using Safetydocs.org, you have two main approaches to organising your content:

  • Structured planning – If you already have your safety documents or know what you’ll need, it’s best to plan your books, chapters and pages from the start.

  • Grow naturally – If you're starting from scratch or building as you go, you can create books for each major area (e.g. “Event Operations”) and add pages directly. As your documentation expands, introduce chapters to group content logically.

Need to reorganise later? No problem.

With Safetydocs.org, you can easily move chapters and pages between books — so your structure can evolve as your event planning does.
